Porter-Cable RN175A 7/8-Inch to 1-3/4-Inch Coil Roofing Nailer Review

The Porter-Cable RN175A 7/8-Inch to 1-3/4-Inch Coil Roofing Nailer accommodates coiled nails between seven-eighths of an inch and one and three-quarters of an inch, so it is ideal for a wide range of projects, including roofing and siding installation. This nailer works with 15-degree wire-collated roofing nails, resists jamming and features a compact design, which reduces fatigue. Nail coils load quickly and easily and users can adjust the nail settings and exhaust without tools. The nailer can hold 120 nails at a time and offers two firing modes: contact and single sequential. A user’s manual, one-quarter-inch NPT fitting, oil and wrenches are included with this nailer. Porter-Cable also offers factory-reconditioned units from time to time, which are like new, but may have some body damage.

Porter-Cable RN175A Coil Roofing Nailer Reviews:

Reviewers commented that this was a great tool for the price and the majority of users gave the nailer five out of five stars. One happy user mentioned that things were mislabeled in the directions, but added that the tool is well labeled, so there were no problems adjusting or using the nailer. Estimates of how many nails needed a manual tap with a hammer range from one in 10 to one in 80 to 100, making this tool very reliable. Users point out that if they have to tap a few nails in by hand, it’s no hardship considering the nailer prevents them from having to nail every nail in by hand.

Nearly all of the reviewers who purchased factory-reconditioned units were completely happy with their nailers. One reviewer, however, commented that his nailer broke the day after his 30-day refund period ended. This reviewer stated that Amazon.com did make an exception to the 30-day time limit, but that they did not refund him the full purchase price.

A couple of reviewers had trouble using the Porter-Cable RN175A nailer for renovation jobs where the wood was older and hardened, even after adjusting the compressor pressure multiple times. They attributed these difficulties to the fact that this model is slightly less powerful than other nailer models, due to its smaller, compact design. These same reviewers were impressed with the nailer’s performance on new construction projects using fresh wood.

One reviewer gave this tool only one star out of five because he could not download a user’s manual from the Internet, and another gave it a low rating, but had never even used it. A third reviewer was happy with the nailer, but took stars off because it did not come with a storage case.

The Porter-Cable RN175A 7/8-Inch to 1-3/4-Inch Coil Roofing Nailer received a total rating of four and a half stars out of five and nearly all of the comments were positive. Since the factory-reconditioned units supplied by Porter-Cable received just as many positive reviews as the new units, those looking to save a few dollars should price both. Keep in mind that prices are constantly changing online and there may be a very small price difference between the new and the factory-reconditioned model.
